Companies with a conscience: Axa sponsors art Toronto, ensuring a platform for contemporary art

October 17, 2018

Collecdev believes that companies, even for-profit companies, needn’t exist without a conscience. We put that ethos into practice every day, and when we connected with AXA, we knew we’d found a kindred spirit.

You may not have heard of AXA, but chances are, someone you know has (with over 105 million clients and offices in 62 countries, the odds are good). AXA is the world's leading insurance brand, and while insurance isn’t the sexiest industry, with a purview that covers fine art and precious collectibles, AXA sure makes it look good.

The company understands the value of art and culture, which is why they’re returning for their eleventh straight year as a main sponsor of Art Toronto, Canada’s international fair for modern and contemporary art. Taking place October 26 to 29 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Art Toronto presents artwork from leading Canadian and international galleries alongside a series of lectures and panel discussions from prominent art world figures.

“Join us in conversation as we increase our appreciation and perspectives on the world of art,” says Iris Handke, Managing Director Canada, AXA, “the conversations during Art Toronto hold strong interest for AXA as we strive to develop new and innovative ways to serve collectors of items that hold historic, artistic, or cultural value.”

The fine art insurer will be hosting talks both at the AXA booth (with a focus on bespoke jewelry and rare sports illustrations) and on stage, as part of the fair’s PLATFORM Speaker Series, discussing the new landscape of Toronto’s cultural scene and opportunities for engaging new audiences with experts Jenn Goodwin, Programming Supervisor, Arts & Culture Services for the City of Toronto; November Paynter, Director of Programs at the Museum of Contemporary Art; and Ilana Shamoon, Director of Programming for Toronto Biennial of Art.

Toronto’s art scene is a priority for the fine art and collectibles division of AXA. Handke explains, “Toronto is an important market. As Canada’s cultural capital, the city has a dedicated community of collectors and patrons who are passionate about art and culture. Toronto is a hub for museums and cultural activities and is home to the country’s largest collecting institutions. From fine art to jewelry, vintage wines to sports memorabilia and more, Canadian collectors take pride in what they collect. Beyond simply being part of their lifestyle, these items can hold considerable financial value. The need to adequately protect their worth cannot be overstated.”

Whether you’re interested in learning how to protect your own collectibles, looking to start a private collection, or simply inspired to take in some contemporary art, AXA and Art Toronto are guaranteed to have something that will catch your eye.
